Meghan Markle's podcast gains traction in the UK for all the wrong reasons

Meghan Markle’s latest venture into the podcasting world appears to be falling flat in the United States, despite being designed with an American audience in mind. Royal experts claim that Confessions of A Female Founder, which has released two episodes so far, has largely been ignored by the U.S. media and failed to make a significant impact with American listeners.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, royal correspondent Cameron Walker questioned the podcast’s appeal and purpose. “What is the USP here?” Walker asked. “So the question is going to be, are people watching it because they love to hate it, or do they genuinely enjoy watching it or listening?”

Walker’s comments were echoed by royal editor Matt Wilkinson, who noted that despite its clear focus on the American market, the podcast hasn’t received much attention in the U.S. media landscape.

“It’s very US-focused,” Wilkinson said. “I think all her guests are mainly based in America so far. But I think the American media have mainly ignored it.” He added, “I’m led to believe that it’s not really being picked up by the American media, which surely would be her target if she were moving into that sphere.”

While the podcast has sparked some interest in the UK, the reception there seems to be driven more by criticism than support. Experts suggested that British listeners are tuning in largely out of a desire to find fault with the Duchess of Sussex, rather than a genuine interest in the content.

“Does that suggest then that the British audience, you know, are very much loving to hate Meghan and perhaps by extension Harry, and the US just don’t care anymore?” Cameron questioned during the segment.

The podcast, launched under Meghan’s new media and content ventures, aims to highlight female entrepreneurs and their struggles in the business world. It marks another attempt by the Duchess to carve out a new public role for herself after stepping back from royal duties alongside Prince Harry in 2020.

Despite the high-profile name attached, Confessions of A Female Founder faces an uphill battle to win over audiences, especially in the U.S., where Markle once found widespread support. With limited media coverage and muted listener engagement, some experts are beginning to question whether Meghan’s efforts to relaunch her public image are resonating as she had hoped.
