King Charles’s grandchildren face being woken “in the still of the night” if they are to watch his coronation as Archie and Lilibet are to remain in California for the ceremony.
Prince Harry ’s solo trip to the UK has also raised questions in the States that he could only stay for “hours” after the service in order to return home.
While the Duke of Sussex is to attend the May 6 Westminster Abbey service, Meghan Markle and the couple’s two kids were today revealed to have opted to remain in Montecito.
Their home in California is eight hours behind the UK.
A source told the Mirror: “Harry and Meghan are well known for their bedtime routine with the kids.
“They have spoken about it in the past.
“But if Archie and Lilibet are to see their grandfather crowned, they will need to be woken in the still of the night.
“Many here are wondering if the children will see it live.”
Charles’s coronation service will begin at 11am in the UK - 3am in California.
Millions worldwide are expected to tune in for the event, with the ‘King Procession’ leaving Buckingham Palace some 30 minutes before the ceremony’s start time.
A second insider raised the prospect of Harry returning to the US “hours” after the coronation.
They added: “As Harry is no longer a senior royal, he will not appear on the balcony with the others.
“He is a dedicated family man and will want to be back with his children as soon as possible.
“It will be a flying visit. It could even be hours after Charles is crowned that Harry will return home to his family.”
The day of the coronation also coincides with Archie’s fourth birthday, with sources adding it has placed more pressure on Harry to return back to LA “sooner rather than later”.
Meghan, 41, has previously spoken about the routine she and Harry, 38, have for Prince Archie, three, and Princess Lilibet, one.
The Duchess of Sussex previously revealed details about the couple’s bedtime routine.
She told Vanity Fair: “Once we have the kids to bed and have played a little Wordle, or [I have] done my ten minutes of DuoLingo… after these two things, if we turn on the TV, which is fairly rare, we are like most people with endless, endless, endless searching until you get so tired of searching you end up not watching anything,” she shared.
In her Spotify podcast, she then told of the Sussex’s breakfast routine.
She revealed: “So the morning rush, I’m sure it’ll only get more chaotic as they get older.
“But for me, it’s, you know, both monitors on for the kids to hear them, always up with Lily, get her downstairs, then a half hour later Archie’s up.”
She went on to say she “start[s] doing his lunch box right before he’s up while I have her, getting her a little nibble, my husband’s help me get him downstairs.”
Meghan added: “I make breakfast for all three of them. It’s very important to me. I love doing it. For me, it just feels like the greatest way to start the morning.”
