Meghan Markle 's rumoured new venture has divided fans and critics, with one branding the possible return of the Duchess of Sussex's personal blog "the heart of contradiction".
Recent filings indicate The Tig - the site Meghan ran before meeting Prince Harry - could be set to return to the internet very soon, but some feel the mum-of-two indulging in the world of wellness goes against her work in the charity sector.
Meghan has received official preliminary approval to revive the website, after she closed it in 2017 upon getting engaged to Prince Harry.
It’s thought to rival Gwyneth Paltrow’s £200million Goop, and details filed with the US Trademark and Patent Office outline that Meghan could also take on an agony aunt role on the site.
The papers have stated that Meghan’s site would give “commentary in the field of personal relationships”.
It has been reported that the website could go live as soon as next week - something fans of the Duchess of Sussex are ecstatic about.
But not everyone is thrilled by the blog’s return.
A New Statesman columnist has slammed the Duchess for having a writing focus on “smoothies and yoga” rather than “questioning what societal forces put Meghan and her husband in a palace, while others are left buying scented candles for apartments they can’t afford”.
Charlotte Kilpatrick criticised the former actress for being at “the heart of contradiction” and referenced Meghan and Harry’s recent Netflix documentary where she discussed her extravagant baby shower in a luxury New York hotel that supposedly cost over $100,000.
The writer slammed the event as being “dressed up as ‘female empowerment’” before she went on to talk about living in a “tiny” cottage next to Kensington Palace, then discussing volunteering in a kitchen before finally talking about the tragedy at Grenfell.
Kilpatrick wrote in the publication: “ This is the heart of the contradiction: interior design tips won’t help those families find a home, just like travel advice won’t help you recover from burnout when you can’t afford to go on vacation.”
She went on to argue that the “solution to these problems isn’t in wellness” as she launched a tirade of condemnation following the news that Meghan was bringing back The Tig.
Before she entered into the Royal Family, the Duchess of Sussex ran the popular lifestyle blog, posting her favourite recipes, fun photos and her inner-most thoughts.
Meghan's passion project, named after favourite wine Tignanello, transformed into a large community of like-minded people who read her thoughts on feminism, travel, the arts, design and wellness.
In some of her most memorable posts, Meghan opened up about her younger years before she shot to international fame - and in another she made a confession about struggling to give up "unladylike habits".
In a twist of a fate, Meghan also blogged about the Prince and Princess of Wales' wedding, writing about "the pomp" surrounding William and Kate's big day - seven years before her own royal wedding.
However, it all came to an upsetting end in 2017 just before Meghan committed her life to Harry.
Five years and a sensational break away from The Firm later, The Tig’s fans seem very excited for the return of Meghan’s beloved blog, despite heavy criticism from others.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “I never thought Meghan should have shut down The Tig. It was her baby. Her brand. Something she actually worked hard and hustled to build.
“And she did it effortlessly. The same reason Smart Work succeeded with the capsule project. She could have upgraded it to a charity status.”
Another gushed: “I think I’m most excited to get our Meghan back, I’ve missed the Tig and her humour and laughs.”
A third wrote: “Excited for Meghan Markle to bring her blog 'The Tig' back I think it will be Goop-esque, but less yoni eggs and more focused on moments of joy and exploring magical experiences After everything that's happened, this is v on brand if we're being fr - watching!”
And a fourth penned: “Meghan is admired for her fashion sense. Much of what she wears sells out immediately. I’m excited about The Tig from this icon, wife, mother, activist, philanthropist, SURVIVOR.”
