Meghan Markle was reportedly less than impressed with the Royal Family's response to claims made in her infamous Oprah Winfrey interview.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down for a tell-all interview with talk show host Oprah Winfrey in 2021 and delivered some serious blows to The Firm. The biggest talking point throughout their interview was when the couple alleged one member of the royal family raised concerns about what colour the Sussexes baby would be.
It's now emerged Meghan and Charles, who was the Prince of Wales at the time, exchanged letters about the incident which exposed the identity of the royal who made the skin-tone comment.
It's reported Meghan was not satisfied with the response from Charles, and that plays into her reasoning for not attending the Coronation, reports The Mirror.
Sources told The Telegraph that Meghan is was not happy with the response to the accusation and he was "raising concerns about unconscious bias". The paper reports that the Duchesses letter was sent in response to correspondence from Charles, in which he expressed his sadness over the split within the family.
The royal family did little to acknowledge these claims publicly, but Prince William did say that the Royal Family is "not a racist family" during a walkabout.
The Oprah interview came one year after the Sussexes' departure from working royal life due to various behind the scenes issues within the family. Meghan allegedly raised bullying complaints which she felt hadn't been dealt with as well as the toll life as working royals had taken on her mental health.
The King is seemingly the only person who made contact with the Duchess after the interview in which Oprah was told there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his [Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born”. This unsatisfactory response reportedly plays a key role in Meghan declining the invitation, but it is Archie's fourth birthday on the same day.
The Duke of Sussex will be in attendance but will play a limited role, amid reports of an attempted reconciliation with father and son.
It is currently reported Harry will be sitting with other non-working members of the royals, such as Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and their husbands, whom he is said to have no bad blood with.
Harry is not expected to take part in either the King’s Procession or the Coronation Procession to and from Buckingham Palace, nor will he be on the Palace balcony on the landmark day.
