Meghan Markle receives award for her podcast about labels that 'hold women back'

Meghan Markle has received The Gracie Awards gong for Entertainment Podcast Host following the nomination of her series, Archetypes.

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, didn't make an appearance at the awards ceremony which was held in Los Angeles on Tuesday, after she was announced winner back in March this year.

According to Meghan, podcast Archetypes focuses on the labels that are in place to hold women back, with the Gracie Awards recognising it as an example of “programming created by women, for women and about women in all facets of media and entertainment”.

The podcast shot to number one in the UK, US, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand.

There was speculation about whether Meghan would attend the event (Archetypes)

On her win, Meghan published a statement to her and Prince Harry ’s organisation Archewell’s website: “Thank you to the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation for this prestigious honor. This is a shared success for me and the team behind Archetypes – most of whom are women – and the inspiring guests who joined me each week.”

Archetypes, a podcast exclusive to Spotify, debuted on August 23, 2022 and features Meghan talking with celebrities, historians and experts about the history of stereotypes that get leveled against women.

Celebrities including Mindy Kaling and tennis sensation Serena Williams have all featured on the Spotify production.

The awards ceremony was held the same day that a UK court denied Prince Harry’s offer to pay for his own security.

The government ceased to provide security for Prince Harry and his family after they decided to step back from being working royals and moved to California.

According to the Associated Press, lawyer Shaheed Fatima said the government "exceeded its authority and its denial was inconsistent with legislation that allows a police chief to provide special police services for payment.

"Parliament has clearly decided that in principle, payment for policing is not inconsistent with the public interest."
