Meghan Markle issues statement on Spotify podcast amid Prince Harry's surprise UK trip

Meghan Markle has cause to celebrate after scooping an award for her "exemplary work" on her podcast.

The Duchess of Sussex has been awarded a Gracie Award for her Spotify podcast Archetypes, which ran for its first season last year.

The podcast featured guests including tennis ace Serena William, TV star Paris Hilton and pop sensation Mariah Carey.

Archetypes was launched with the aim of investigating "labels that try to hold women back" through conversations between Meghan and historians, experts and women who have experienced being typecast.

The Gracie awards, which are organised by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation celebrate exemplary programming and achievements by women in the media.

And responding to her win on the Archewell website, Meghan said: "Thank you to the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation for this prestigious honor.

"This is a shared success for me and the team behind Archetypes – most of whom are women – and the inspiring guests who joined me each week."

Meghan and Prince Harry signed a lucrative deal with the audio streaming giant Spotify to host and produce podcasts, estimated to be worth around £18 million, in late 2020.

The podcast award comes amid Harry's surprise trip to the UK, where he has been seen at the High Court in London for his latest legal battle.

Harry attended three days of a four-day hearing in his claim against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL).

His current trip to the UK is believed to be the first time Harry has been back in the UK since the late Queen's funeral in September.

His surprise return came nearly three months after he laid bare his troubled relationship with his father King Charles and brother Prince William in his controversial autobiography Spare.

Harry was not expected to meet up with his father while in the UK - even though the King was informed of his visit - as he is "busy" on Monday and Tuesday.

On Wednesday, he started the first state visit of his reign with a three-day trip to Germany with Queen Camilla, where they were given a ceremonial welcome at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate and attended a state banquet at Schloss Bellevue.

His visit also comes amid questions over whether he and Meghan will be in the UK in just six weeks time to attend the Coronation of his father at Westminster Abbey.

It has been confirmed that they have been invited but there has been no word yet if they will be there or not.
