Meghan Markle issues statement on 'present life' as she's set to skip Coronation

Meghan Markle has issued a statement and put to bed some rumours about the reason she's not attending the King's coronation. The mum-of-two denied the issue was because of a letter she sent expressing concern over unconscious bias in the royal family, writes The Mirror.

The Duchess of Sussex hit back at the claims made in the broadsheet newspaper Daily Telegraph at the weekend. According to the Telegraph, a letter was sent to Charles, then the Prince of Wales, following Harry and Meghan's appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show in March 2021.

During the interview, Meghan made a number of allegations about the Royal Family, including claims that a member of the royal family had speculated about how dark their unborn son's skin would be.

The newspaper's source claimed that was the reason why the former Suits actress is not attending the Coronation next month, saying she feels she did not receive a satisfactory response to her concerns.

A spokesperson for Meghan said: "The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago.

"Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous."

The letters are also said to make clear the identity of the senior royal who made the comment, with both Meghan and Charles acknowledging the remark was not made maliciously, according to the paper.

Meghan told Oprah about several conversations within the royal family about how her son would look.

She also went on to talk about conversations that took place on how Archie, now three, would not be a prince or afforded royal protection.

She said: "In the months when I was pregnant, all around the same time, so we have in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title, and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born."

Oprah replied: "They were concerned that if he were too brown, that would be a problem. Are you saying that?”

The Duchess responded: "If that’s the assumption you’re making, I think that feels like a pretty safe one, which was really hard to understand, right?”

Since the Winfrey interview, Harry has denied the couple accused members of the royal family of being racist.

Rumours have been circulating about the reason why Meghan has chosen not to attend the Coronation with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

However, May 6 is also Archie's fourth birthday.

It is claimed that Harry will attend his father's ceremony, then immediately after the service, will fly back to the couple's Californian home to be with his family.
