Meghan Markle hopes Coronation decision will be 'seen as unselfish' by Charles

Megan Markle hopes her decision to stay away from the Coronation will be "seen as unselfish" by King Charles, according to a royal source.

The Duke of Sussex will be in attendance at his dad's ceremony on May 6 but Meghan will remain at home in California, US, with their two children Archie and Lillibet.

Despite relationships between royal members souring after the release of Harry's memoir "Spare", Meghan is keen to stop any more splits.

According to a source, "Meghan doesn’t want any more rifts" with the royal family and hopes by staying away from the King's day big it will be see as an "unselfish" one.

According to GB News, the source said: "She wants her children to know their grandfather, Charles, particularly when they are not going to know their other grandfather.

"She does hope they will meet and hopes her decision will be seen as an unselfish one, as it was best to keep the attention on His Majesty."

With Archie's birthday falling on the day of the Coronation, many royal experts believed this played a key part in Meghan's decision to stay in America.

Harry and Meghan are still keen for Archie and Lilibet to have a close relationship with their grandfather - similar to the one they had with the late Queen.

The Duke of Sussex said in an interview in 2021: "Both my grandparents do Zoom. They’ve seen Archie running around.”

Despite the frosty relationship between King Charles and Harry, there is still an appetite to try and have a relationship - especially for the grandchildren, according to Page Six.

One source said: “There is now, more than ever, a willingness to try and have a relationship.”

Meghan also wants King Charles to spend time with their children and is keen for the family to avoid any future rifts.

The source added: "Meghan doesn’t want any more rifts. She wants her children to know their grandfather, Charles, particularly when they are not going to know their other grandfather.

“She does hope they will meet and hopes her decision will be seen as an unselfish one, as it was best to keep the attention on His Majesty."

With the decision to keep away from the Coronation, Meghan hopes it will put the attention back on the King's historic day.

“She just really doesn’t want a song and dance and everything being lived out in the public eye,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Meghan is planning on an "intimate" birthday party for Archie which will include some of his schoolfriends, her mum Doria Ragland and a few celebrity friends.

Once the ceremony is finished, Prince Harry will race back home to LA to be back with his family - and could be back in time for the early evening thanks to the eight hour time difference.
