Meghan Markle announced she is rejoining Instagram as she opened up on her royal struggles in a new interview.
The Duchess of Sussex made the revelation while speaking with New York Magazine The Cut about her new podcast.
Leaning towards the interviewer, she asked in a hushed tone: “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back … on Instagram."
She said the decision was made in light of the launch of her new podcast, Archetypes, which dropped its first episode on Spotify last week.
Prince Harry and Meghan quit Facebook and Twitter in January last year, saying they became alienated by the "hate" they experienced online.
The pair have not posted to their Sussex Royal Instagram account, which has 9.5million followers, since January 2020.
In their last post they hinted at taking a leave from social media by saying: "While you may not see us here, the work continues."
The couple added: "Thank you to this community - for the support, the inspiration and the share commitment to the good in the world.
"We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You've been great!
"Until then, pleasure take good care of yourselves, and of one another."
The Duchess has previously shared her horror at the "almost unsurvivable" abuse she faced while on maternity leave with her son Archie.
She also spoke about being the "most trolled person in the world" on a podcast to mark World Mental Health Day.
During the chat, the former actress said: "I'm told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female.
"Now, eight months of that I wasn't even visible, I was on maternity leave or with a baby.
"But what was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it's almost unsurvivable, that's so big, you can't think of what that feels like, because I don't care if you're 15 or 25, if people are saying things about you that aren't true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging."
Prince Harry previously said social media had helped create "a crisis of hate, a crisis of health and a crisis of truth".
In an opinion piece for American business magazine Fast Company, Harry said social media is "unwell" and that he and his wife had been working with business leaders to try and implement positive change.
He wrote: "The digital landscape is unwell and companies like yours have the chance to reconsider your role in funding and supporting online platforms that have contributed to, stoked, and created the conditions for a crisis of hate, a crisis of health, and a crisis of truth."
The Duke of Sussex added: "Every time you click they learn more about you. Our information, private data, and unknown habits are traded on for advertising space and dollars.
"The price we’re all paying is much higher than it appears. Whereas normally we’re the consumer buying a product, in this ever-changing digital world, we are the product."
