Meghan Markle at Wimbledon - how the Duchess bonded with Kate Middleton over tennis

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton previously appeared to enjoy each other's company at Wimbledon matches in years gone by.

The royal duo have been pictured at the prestigious tournament from as far back as 2018, when the Duchess of Sussex first started dating Prince Harry. At the time it looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying bonding over tennis.

Their first joint appearance without Prince William or Harry was at Novak Djokovic's defeat of a determined Rafael Nadal at the Wimbledon final that year.

As they watched the match they were pictured giggling and chatting with one another and before the tennis started the pair met former Wimbledon Ladies Champions at a lunch.

Meghan looked stunning in Ralph Lauren while an equally gorgeous Kate opted for Jenny Packham attire.

In 2019, Meghan and Kate made another joint appearance along with Kate's sister Pippa as they stepped out to watch the Wimbledon women’s singles final.

Kate wore a chic green Dolce & Gabbana dress, while Meghan opted for a smart Hugo Boss skirt and shirt combination and all three women looked to be having the best time in the Royal Box as they watched Meghan's close pal Serena Williams take on Simona Halep.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Wimbledon was cancelled in 2020, putting the royal ladies' tennis meetups on a brief pause.

In 2021 and 2022, Kate made several appearance to the annual sporting matches without Meghan following the Sussexes' departure from the Royal Family.

Harry and Meghan distanced themselves from the Royal Family in the following years, publicly voicing their thoughts in a number of explosive chats and revelations.

But body language expert Judi James has claimed to have seen the cracks in the fractured relationship between Meghan and her sister-in-law Kate Middleton from as far back as their first Wimbledon appearance.

Judi says cracks were showing for as early as 2018 (ABACA/PA Images)

"In 2018 they looked more comfortable with each other, their outfits were synchronised and they seemed to be having the kind of fun you might have with a long-term friend, sitting close or angled in toward each other and even giggling using accelerated intimacy signals like whispering together behind their hands," Judi exclusively told us.

"By 2019 though they were no longer trying to signal sister-in-law friendship, they were trying to disprove rumours of a rift, which always puts pressure on any body language performance."
