Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton 'were never friends' as expert claims they were 'too different'

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton 'were never friends' and were 'too different' to ever bond, says one royal expert.

The Duchess of Sussex and the Princess of Wales completed a number of royal engagements together before Prince Harry and Meghan stepped away from the royal fold. While everything pointed towards a friendship between the sisters-in-law during the early days of Meghan and Harry's relationship, that all changed when the wedding came around.

All hopes of a close friendship between Meghan and Kate were dashed after reports emerged that the Suits actress left the Princess in tears following an argument about bridesmaids dresses. Meghan later said during their Oprah Winfrey interview that Kate actually made her cry, and Harry detailed the incident in his book but one royal expert claims the two were never friends to begin with.

"There wasn’t really any relationship between the two of them," True Royalty TV co-founder Nick Bullen told Fox News Digital. "It was the brothers – Prince William and Prince Harry – who were falling out, not the sisters-in-law, not the wives."

"I was talking to someone very early on in the Sussex marriage who had been at a dinner with Kate and had been asking about Meghan," he claimed. "And Kate just said, ‘She’s just really different [from] the rest of us.’ And not in a negative way. They just didn’t have lots in common."

"Kate is sort of a well-to-do English girl who hadn’t really had many jobs and had married her prince," he explained. "Whereas Meghan was a divorced career woman from LA. They’re just different. So I think the relationship… was never really there as we, as the world, were hoping."

He added: "We hoped it would be those shots of them going to Wimbledon together… [But] you’d be hard [pressed] to find moments when it was just the two of them coming together."

"I think after the death of the queen, there wasn’t really a relationship to break down," said Bullen. "I don’t think it was there in the first place."

In the 2020 book "Finding Freedom," Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand also revealed that the women never became close during Markle’s time living in the U.K.

"Meghan would agree with the assessment that the duchesses were not the best of friends," the reporters wrote. "Their relationship hadn’t progressed much since she was Harry’s girlfriend."

In his biography Spare, which hit shelves in January, Prince Harry claimed that Kate felt as though she had to 'compete' with his wife. He pens: "Kate got things rolling straightaway by acknowledging that these stories in the papers about Meg making her cry were totally false.

"'I know, Meghan, that I was the one who made you cry"'.

He writes: "Why haven’t they phoned this execrable woman who wrote this story, and demanded a retraction? "Kate, flustered, didn’t answer, and Willy chimed in with some very supportive-sounding evasions, but I already knew the truth.

"No one at the Palace could phone the correspondent, because that would invite the inevitable retort: Well, if the story’s wrong, what’s the real story? What did happen between the two duchesses? And that door must never be opened, because it would embarrass the future queen."
