Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton's Alleged Jam Dispute Sparks Royal Drama

ITV’s Lorraine Kelly has dismissed the notion of a “jam war” between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton as “silly.” On Thursday’s (February 27) episode of Lorraine, Kelly was joined by Royal correspondent Russell Myers and broadcaster Sonali Shah to discuss the latest royal news, which quickly turned to the alleged jam-related dispute between the two women, according to OK! Magazine.

The conversation centered around Kate Middleton’s recent visit to the Meadow Street Community Garden on Wednesday, where she promised to share her plum jam recipe with young gardeners. The gesture follows Meghan Markle’s recent venture into the preserve market, where she has been distributing homemade jam under her American Riviera Orchard brand, now rebranded as As Ever.

Speculation has erupted among fans, with some suggesting the two royal figures are embroiled in a “jam war” – an idea that both Myers and Kelly found somewhat absurd.

“This is from the sublime to the ridiculous in this job,” Russell Myers commented, referring to the growing media attention surrounding the supposed conflict. “Apparently, the Duchesses and the Princesses are at war over preserves.”

Myers went on to detail Kate’s visit to Wales with Prince William, where they met locals, including schoolchildren who spoke about their cooking lessons. Kate then mentioned sending them her plum jam recipe. The media frenzy ensued, with some suggesting that this gesture was somehow a direct response to Meghan’s foray into the jam business. Myers observed that this response was exaggerated, stating, “Of course, everyone has lost their minds over this because [Kate and Meghan] must be at war”, reports the Mirror.

Lorraine Kelly wasn’t impressed by the speculation, stating bluntly, “It is silly, isn’t it?” She further remarked, “Do you not think surely it has to stop quite soon? Every time Meghan does something or Catherine does something, there’s always people who want to see a clash, even when there isn’t one.”

Russell Myers expressed his disbelief at the strong divide between supporters of both royal women, noting that the intensity of the rivalry seems to have “died down” recently. Broadcaster Sonali Shah reflected on how society often pits women against each other, commenting, “They can both have their jam. What’s interesting is we’re waiting for Meghan’s jam, and in the meantime, this has just happened.”

Shah concluded with a hopeful note, adding, “You can just go out there and put it out there and not have to, sort of, pre-launch anything. We wish them both success.”
