Meghan Markle accused of 'mocking' The Queen in awkward Netflix moment as Prince Harry looks on

Meghan Markle has been accused of 'mocking' Queen Elizabeth II by re-enacting an over the top curtsy she gave when she first met her husband's late grandmother.

After all the hype of press attention, Meghan and Prince Harry 's Netflix documentary finally launched to the world on Thursday and instantly got everyone talking, with fierce critics of the couple like Piers Morgan branding them 'boring' and 'worse than the Kardashians,' while they were defended by high profile supporters like Denise Welch. The documentary features six different episodes, with the first three out now and the remaining parts being released on Thursday, December 15, the same day Kate Middleton hosts a Christmas carol service in honour of The Queen.

One of the most talked about moments of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's new show so far has proved to be when they discuss the first time the form Suits actress met her husband's grandmother. And, the thing that has rubbed many viewers up the wrong way is Meghan's recollection of the curtsy she gave to Her Majesty on the occasion of their first meeting.

Amogn those who've taken exception to Meghan's curtsy in the Netflix doc, as a rather baffled Prince Harry looks on, is royal biographer and regular This Morning contributor, Gyles Brandreth, who said of the moment: "“It’s embarrassing, because it is mocking – and nobody curtsies to the Queen like that, and nobody would have advised her to do it that way.”

Speaking about Harry, he remarked “He would know that the bow, as it were, is a brief nod and the curtsy is to show respect for the sovereign, and in the case of the Queen – a lady in her 90s who actually had earned respect through a lifetime of service, and that was it."

Gyles added: "“To do this sort of mocking thing is uncomfortable, but it is a cultural difference. It’s like you would do a curtsy if you were playing in Snow White.”

Gyles' sentiments have been echoed online by plenty of Twitter users. On seeing it, one reacted: "Meghan Markle mocks the respect of a curtsy for a beloved Queen. Mocks the traditions of the Monarchy & the UK. And she finds herself adorable while doing it. She is the most narcissistic & self-important woman." However, others have sided with the Duchess, with a fan tweeting: "Meghan is CLEARLY making fun of herself and her first curtsy. But go ahead and keep spinning...."
