Meghan and Harry want to 'create drama by dragging out Coronation response', says expert

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are trying to "create drama" by "dragging out" their Coronation decision, according to a PR expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are still yet to announce whether they will attend the Coronation of King Charles III, despite the historic event being less than a month away.

The cut-off point for RSVPs has reportedly passed, but Harry and Meghan have yet to respond to the official invitation amid rumours the couple have a lot of concerns about the event.

A leading publicity expert has told The Mirror the Sussexes are using their Coronation decision to their advantage to create "the most drama and the most speculation".

"It's to their advantage to drag out whether or not they will attend.

"If they instantly declined, the story would have died after a few days. If they RSVP'd, they'd get a tad more press in the lead-up, but it would lack the drama of a will-they-or-won't-they scenario."

Matt Yanofsky, PR expert and The Moment Lab founder added: "Holding off on making a choice creates the most drama and the most speculation.

"If you're someone whose main PR move is to create drama, this is the correct move.

"This is what a soap opera character would do, and they are essentially real-life Royal soap opera stars."

Matt also said it would be advantageous for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to attend the Coronation to create more publicity for themselves.

"If I was advising them, I would advise them to attend. They've sold most of the drama they have to sell about the royals.

"They need a new storyline and attending would be a story," he said.

The PR expert also said the couple risk facing a severe backlash if they failed to attend the big event.

"If they don't go, there could be backlash, but they won't get the most press coverage they could receive. The king will immediately overshadow them.

"If they want to stay in the spotlight, they need to attend. They need the storyline, and let's face it: They are selling drama."
