Meghan and Harry share flirty private texts and reveal prince's secret Instagram

Prince Harry revealed he first laid eyes on his future wife on Instagram after spotting a snap of her on his friend's feed, rubbishing previous claims they met on a blind date.

Speaking on the first episode of the couple's highly-anticipated six-part Netflix series, which is part of a $112 million deal with TV streaming giant, the Duke of Sussex explained the pair chatted via text message before their first meet up.

Giving a real insight into the early days of their romance, the couple shared screenshots of some of the flirty messages they exchanged in the lead up to the first date.

Harry recalls coming across the then US actress' Instagram page while using his private account, spotting a photo of her with a Snapchat filter of a dog, which made him remark: "That was the first thing, I was like, 'Who is that?'."

Harry explains: "Meghan and I met over Instagram. I was scrolling through my feed and someone who was a friend had a video of the two of them, it was like Snapchat."

Meghan was travelling ahead of a new series of Suits and wanted a 'hot girl summer', but then she was put into contact with the future King's brother.

"I was really intent on being single and having fun girl time," admits Meghan. "I had a career, I had my life. I had a path. And then came H [Harry]. Talk about plot twist."

Meghan says she decided that using Instagram was the "best barometer" to judge the prince, rather than reading stories about him on the internet.

She was enticed by the "beautiful photography" on his Instagram page and claims she decided not to Google him.

The couple have published the messages they sent to each other before they first met - with Prince Harry getting down with the kids with his text speak.

Harry writes: "So come on - what u doing tomorrow night? Hope you're having fun over there!"

Meghan replies: "Heading back to soho. I have a dinner tomorrow at 8 but can do drinks tomorrow night. Would that work? Maybe 6?"

A delighted Harry sends back: "You're ON!"

Harry was late for their first meeting and kept texting apologising saying he was in traffic - with the prince admitting he was panicking and sweating.

The first three episodes of Harry & Meghan landed on Netflix today, featuring emotional reality TV-style confessionals, unseen photos and a behind-the-scenes look at the couple's private lives.

A friend close to the royal family stressed the situation concerned "real people" and that there was a "great deal of sadness" involved.

“It’s really important to remember that these are real people. This isn't a soap opera. They are human beings and a family and there’s a great deal of sadness,” the friend said.

Harry's father Charles and brother William, along with Camilla and Kate, are not expected to personally watch the series, but royal aides will be tasked with closely monitoring the output, and considering, if at all, how to respond.

The King and the royal family will be carrying on with royal duties as normal on Thursday, with the docuseries also coinciding with the first circulation of coins bearing Charles’ effigy in post offices around the UK – symbolic of the adjustments still continuing in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

A senior royal source said: "There is a completely united front from the King and his family concerning the numerous attempts to privately make peace with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which sadly have once again resulted in the other side wishing to air their repeated grievances to the world.

"If there is a need to respond to anything in the upcoming series then you can be assured that response will be swift and robust."

The Sussexes signed lucrative deals thought to be worth more than £100 million with Netflix and Spotify after quitting the monarchy amid the Megxit crisis as they struggled with royal life.
