Meghan and Harry's close friend praises '5 years of fortitude' on wedding anniversary

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary today - and one of their close friend has praised their "fortitude" on the special occasion.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot in a fairy-tale wedding ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2018, and their pal has celebrated their bond being strong through hardship after a turbulent few years.

Nigerian-born British photographer Misan Harriman is a close friend of both Meghan and Harry, with the one of the first to congratulate the couple on their milestone wedding anniversary.

According to British Vogue, Misan "met and connected with Meghan long ago at a charity event," with him also telling the magazine: "Meg reminded me that had I not introduced her to a mutual friend then she wouldn't have met Harry. I'm grateful for whatever small part I played."

Sharing a black and white photograph that he snapped, Misan took to Instagram on Friday to write: "5 years, fortitude," complete with a red heart emoji.

Misan describing their relationship as having "fortitude" might relate to the turbulent time the couple have had in recent years.

Fortitude is widely defined as "bravery when dealing with pain or difficulty, especially over a long period".

This comes after the Duke and Duchess released a statement earlier this week that stated they were involved in a "near catastrophic car chase", which involved their yellow cab taxi and the US paparazzi.

Travelling in the city with Meghan's mum Doria Ragland after attending the Ms Foundation for Women’s 50th-anniversary gala event, the couple are said to have endured the "car chase" which could have ended in catastrophe.

Harry and Meghan got wed in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018, with them soon welcoming their firstborn son Prince Archie.

The following year, Harry and Meghan decided to step down as senior royals and moved to California, before they then welcomed their second child, Princess Lilibet, in June 2021.

The couple announced that they were stepping back as senior royals in January 2020, with them stating: "We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent."

Since stepping back, the couple moved to America before sitting down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell-all interview a year after announcing their departure.

The couple then went on to release their own self-titled Netflix documentary, which came just months before Harry released his bombshell book Spare.
