Megan Fox hits out after facing backlash for advertising friend’s $30K GoFundMe page

Megan Fox has responded to the backlash she received online for posting a link to a friend’s $30,000 GoFundMe drive.

Fans of the Hollywood star accused her of “hoarding money” by asking those “much poorer” than her to offer their money rather than personally donating the cash needed to reach the fundraising goal.

The fundraiser was launched by her friend and longtime nail artist Brittney Boyce, whose 64-year-old father Michael was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Boyce expressed on the fundraising page that she had set it up in the hopes of covering her dad’s medical expenses so he can “focus on himself and not the stress on finances”.

Learning of her friend’s fundraiser, Fox, who is reported to be worth an estimated $8 million, shared the GoFundMe link on her Instagram Story on Monday in support.

She wrote alongside the link: “My friend’s dad was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. If you guys are able to help, please do.”

However, her charitable call for action left many online outraged, with some wondering how she could ask those less fortunate than herself to donate.

Now addressing the furore, Fox took to her Instagram Story on Thursday and wrote: “Hey weirdos do any of you have the emotional intelligence to consider that maybe Brit doesn’t want her celebrity clients donating large sums of money to her because it creates a dynamic in her working relationships that makes her uncomfortable?

“So instead she asked me to post the GoFundMe so that many people could donate small amounts of money to help them reach their goal.

She continued: “I just obliged her request anything she needs from me personally she will ask and I will do privately.

“One thing you’re not going to accuse me of is being miserly or lacking generosity. So try again on another day (probably tomorrow! with some different bulls**t you bunch of psychos.”

This comes after a fan raged on Twitter: “Megan Fox sharing a GoFundMe for 30k has got to be a joke. As if she isn’t rich as f**k and could help their friend immediately lol.”

“If I had as much money as her, I’d cover 100 per cent of a friend’s parent’s medical expenses before I asked strangers to,” another penned on Reddit.

A third added: “The wealthy should absolutely cover this. Sorry not sorry. Stop hoarding money and asking your much poorer fans to help.”
