Megan Fox faces backlash for asking fans to donate to her friend’s $30,000 GoFundMe

Megan Fox is facing backlash after asking her social media followers to donate to a friend’s GoFundMe.

Fans of the Hollywood star have accused her of “hoarding money” by asking those “much poorer” than her to offer their money rather than personally donating the $30,000 needed to reach the fundraising goal.

The fundraiser was launched by her friend and longtime nail artist Brittney Boyce, whose 64-year-old father Michael was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Boyce expressed on the fundraising page that she had set it up in the hopes of covering her dad’s medical expenses so he can “focus on himself and not the stress on finances”.

The actress shared the post on her Instagram Story on Monday (July 24) (Instagram/Megan Fox)

Learning of her friend’s fundraiser, Fox, who is reported to be worth an estimated $8 million, shared the GoFundMe link on her Instagram Story on Monday in support.

She wrote alongside the link: “My friend’s dad was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. If you guys are able to help, please do.”

However, her charitable call for action has left many online outraged, with some claiming how dare she ask those less fortunate than herself to donate.

One tweeted: “Megan Fox sharing a GoFundMe for 30k has got to be a joke. As if she isn’t rich as f**k and could help their friend immediately lol.”

“If I had as much money as her, I’d cover 100 per cent of a friend’s parent’s medical expenses before I asked strangers to,” another penned on Reddit.

A third added: “The wealthy should absolutely cover this. Sorry not sorry. Stop hoarding money and asking your much poorer fans to help.”

“The highest donation is only $300 and it’s not anonymous. Sis better contribute herself and lead the way,” a social media user remarked on Reddit.

While another fumed: “According to other posts in this thread, she has $8,000,000 and MGK $10,000,000. The goal is $30,000.

“In normal money that would mean that she has $8,000 (and MGK $10,000) and is asking her fans for $30. For f**ks sake, just give it yourself, Megan!”

Elsewhere, others speculated that Boyce may have felt uncomfortable with Fox giving her the full amount.

A fan wrote: “Megan could very much make an anonymous donation to this fund or circulate it amongst a group of coworkers who are likely far better off financially than fans.

“I don’t follow Megan’s career, but I’d certainly imagine she has 30k she could either spare or at least donate a huge chunk of?”

It should be noted that while Fox’s name cannot be found on the current list of donors, she may have donated directly to Boyce and her family.

As of now, the fundraiser sits at just over $7,500 and has since increased its fundraising goal from $30,000 to $60,000.

Boyce, who is the founder of Nails of LA, was behind Fox’s fiancé Machine Gun Kelly’s diamond manicure at the Billboard Music Awards last year, which cost a reported $30,000.

For the event, MGK’s nails boasted 880 diamonds and weighed more than 11 carats.

The Standard has contacted Megan Fox’s rep for comment.
