Megan Barton Hanson reveals she is bisexual and thinks Love Island originally rejected her for 'being more into girls'

Megan Barton Hanson has revealed she is bisexual, claiming her “openness” about being attracted to women cost her a place on Love Island in 2017.

The reality star, who found fame on last year’s show, said she would like a long-term relationship with a woman to “see how it goes” because she enjoys a “deeper connection” with female partners.

“I think long-term I would get with a woman, but it's hard. I just felt like I needed to get with a guy because society said so but after the s*** I've been through, I just want to see how it goes with a woman,” she told The Sun Online.

Barton Hanson described first “falling in love” with a girl when she was 16, slowly “finding her more and more attractive” as they spent a lot of time together.

But the model confessed she thinks telling Love Island bosses that she’s “more into girls” was the reason behind her not bagging a spot in the villa for series three – so she didn’t mention it when she applied again.

She told the publication: “I was super open and said I feel like I’m more into girls, but I think that's what put them off.

“In Love Island I already felt I had a stigma attached to me because of being a stripper. I didn't want to like add to it by revealing I like girls as well!”

Barton Hanson, who met ex-boyfriend Wes Nelson in the villa after a short-lived romance with Eyal Booker, said that she now “wants to find somebody” and “doesn’t care what people think”.

Barton Hanson and Nelson finished in fourth place, behind Kaz Crossley and Josh Denzel, Laura Anderson and Paul Knops and eventual winners Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham.

But the pair called time on their romance in January, while Nelson was a contestant on Dancing On Ice.

It was recently revealed that Barton Hanson will put her love life in the hands of the Celebrity Dating Agency as one of seven famous faces on the new series of Celebs Go Dating, which is expected to kick off soon.

Standard Online has contacted Love Island for comment.
