Meet the Scottish Glow Up contestant aiming for glory on BBC Three make-up show

A Scottish drag queen with a passion for religion and make-up artistry is aiming to snatch the BBC Three Glow Up crown, as the new season begins next month.

Axel B, from Dundee, is one of ten make-up artists appearing on the fifth season of Glow Up, a television competition programme that is aiming to find the UK's next big thing in MUA.

The 27-year-old describes themselves as "a Scottish, Christian Drag Queen" and notes that he is "ready to finally show my talents to the world!"

Axel describes their make-up as colourful, interdimensional and odd. They are obsessed with creature design, and transforming themselves into monsters.

Anything to do with less makeup will always be a weakness for Axel. Drag is all about putting as much makeup on as possible.

Axel will compete against ten other MUAs on the show, hosted by supermodel Leomie Anderson on BBC Three.

Each week, ten of the most talented aspiring make-up artists will be judged on their creative skills and ability to perform under pressure, in incredible Professional Assignments, from TV special FX to the Metaverse.

At Glow Up Studios these skilled artists will push their creativity and technical abilities to the limit as they strive to impress the judges, the legendary Val Garland and Dominic Skinner.

The two who fail to impress, go head-to-head in a Face Off, where they fight to escape elimination.

After eight weeks, the last make-up artist (MUA) standing wins a contract assisting some of the world’s top make-artists and is crowned Britain’s Next Make-up Star.

It's a high-stakes competition that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Series five will take the battle of the brushes to a whole other level with real-world professional assignments as the MUAs will work on the set of Bridgerton, work with retail make up giant Sephora and assist on the TV set of BBC comedy hit Ghosts.

The MUAs will also take part in a charity campaign with Mac and Viva Glam, create looks for the Metaverse Fashion Week, do the make-up for celebrities attending The BRIT Awards and present a live masterclass to industry heavyweights and celebrities at Harvey Nichols.

Series five of Glow Up launches on Tuesday, May 2 at 8pm on BBC iPlayer and 8pm on BBC Three.
