Meet the Scots music teacher taking on The Great British Bake Off 2022

The time has almost arrived for The Great British Bake Off to returns to our screens and fans are absolutely buzzing. Prue and Paul are back judging the sweet treats once again but Scots are delighted to see one of their own in the line up of contestants.

As always, 12 talented bakers will be stepping into the iconic white tent with the hopes of winning the series and the coveted title of star baker. This year’s Bake Off contestants include a variety of different people from an electrical engineer, a cardiovascular research associate, and a music teacher.

Contestants often go on to have baking success and some fame, especially those who become favourites among fans. Hoping to impress the judges is Kevin from Lanarkshire. Kevin is 33-years-old and has been baking since the age of 17 as a hobby alongside practising his many musical instruments.

Kevin is a music teacher and also performs, with saxophone as his main instrument. He also plays piano, clarinet and flute but hopes to swap standing ovations for Paul’s legendary handshakes. The saxophonist spends as much time as possible with his wife Rachel and his siblings, they often play board games with his siblings and their partners. He is also a big animal lover and surrounds himself with family and pets.

His ethos with baking is to use seasonal ingredients and loves interesting combinations of fruits, herbs, nuts and spices. Kevin believes that with strong technique and good flavours, the presentation comes naturally. Over the next eight weeks, the 12 contestants will be whittled down until one baker scoops the crown, or cake stand. All episodes will be available on All4 after they air and previous series can be watched on catch up now.

The other bakers Kevin will compete against are:

  • Carol, 59, a supermarket cashier from Dorset
  • Maisam, 18, a student and sales assistant from Greater Manchester
  • Maxy, 29, an architectural assistant from London
  • Sandro, 30, a nanny from London
  • Syabira, 32, a cardiovascular research associate from London
  • Dawn, 60, an IT manager from Bedfordshire
  • James, 25, a nuclear scientist from Cumbria
  • Janusz, 34, a personal assistant from East Sussex
  • Rebs, 23, a masters student from County Antrim
  • Will, 45, a former charity director from London
  • Abdul, 29, an electronics engineer from London

The first episode of The Great British Bake Off airs tonight (Tuesday, September 13) at 8pm.
