Meet the Rees-Moggs: everything we know

Conservative candidate Jacob Rees-Mogg stands next to Barmy Brunch from The Official Monster Raving Loony Party during the declaration for the North East Somerset constituency.

Proving that life is indeed stranger than fiction, Meet The Rees Moggs, is a new reality series about Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg. Yes, one minute you're being talked about as the next leader of the Tory party and possible PM, the next you're appearing in a reality show heading to Discovery Plus.

The series will follow the lives of Rees-Mogg, his wife and their six children. Rees-Mogg says: "Animals, children, an election and a film crew. What could possibly go wrong? This everyday story of Somerset folk is fun to film but may be a bit more Fawlty Towers than Downton Abbey."

Here's everything we know...

Meet The Rees Moggs release date

Meet The Rees Moggs is filming now, so it's likely the series will reach Discovery Plus either in late 2024 or early 2025. When we have an official release date we will update this article. Discovery Plus costs £3.99 for its basic plan and £6.99 for its standard plan which includes some sport.

What's it about?

Meet The Rees Moggs is about the former Tory MP and his family. One of the key locations will be his 17th-century Somerset family home. The cameras will follow the chaos of family life. With Jacob referencing Fawlty Towers, could he be a Basil Fawlty-type screeching orders while his life collapses around him? Or do the family have a string of eccentric guests? Or both? Only time will tell. It will be interesting to see how Jacob reacts to losing his seat, with the cameras following him through the doomed Conservative election campaign. It's not clear to what extent the series will go behind the scenes at Westminster. This isn't the first time Discovery Plus has followed the life of somebody famous, previously making Vinnie Jones in the Country about the former footballer. That's a good quiz question: what do Jacob Rees-Mogg and Vinnie Jones have in common?!

The makers say about the series: "Following Rees-Mogg through the run-up to the General Election and the aftermath that follows, the series which drops on Discovery Plus later this year will give viewers insight into the political figure who divides opinion as well as the husband and father at home."

Cast

The cameras follow Jacob Rees-Mogg and his wife Helena de Chair — full name Helena Anne Beatrix Fitzwilliam de Chair. The couple married in 2007. The series also features the couple's six children — Peter, Mary, Thomas, Anselm, Alfred and Sixtus.
