After plenty of hype, mystery and discussion, the Married At First Sight (MAFS) Final Test Week is finally here. For the first time ever, the strength of the relationships will be tested in the form of a challenge called ‘Is the grass greener on the other side?’ which will see the couples being given the option to go on a date with another match chosen by the experts.
In the lead-up to the Final Test Week, we did see a tiny glimpse of the people the experts have found for our brides and grooms. Now, we know the identity of most of the newcomers.

While the experts previously told PEDESTRIAN.TV before the season started that the upcoming challenge was a test set to send shockwaves through the experiment. Although they didn’t elaborate at the time, it turns out that the challenge saw the experts provide the MAFS contestants with an envelope containing the name of their “scientifically better” match.
The brides and grooms had the choice of opening the envelope and going on a date with this person, or staying loyal to their original partner. According to Daily Mail Australia, if a contestant opened the envelope, they automatically failed the challenge in the eyes of the experts.
Who opened the envelope?
Back when we chatted to MAFS executive producers Alexandra Spurway and John Walsh, they revealed that “one or more couples” fell prey to this particular challenge. Now, insiders have uncovered which couples decided to open the envelope.
Daily Mail Australia revealed that Awhina Rutene, Adrian Araouzou, Beth Kelly, Teejay Halkias, Paul Antoine, Jacqui Burfoot, Ryan Donnelly and Jamie Marinos all decided to meet up with their backup options.
Meanwhile, Jeff Gobbells, Rhi Disljenkovic, Carina Miribile and Dave Hand refused.

Meet the newcomers
Tim King
Tim King is an NDIS worker from the Gold Coast who had apparently been waiting in the wings to appear on this season of MAFS from the get go.
In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, he revealed that he was originally supposed to be a main cast member.
“I was supposed to be an original contestant but my bride bailed, so I went off to Europe. Then they called me back as an intruder groom, but two days before I was meant to go on, I got a call saying they went with another guy,” he said.
“I was called back again when my original bride decided to come back, but I was still in Europe, so they found a replacement groom for her.”

In the end, he was called back to be part of the MAFS Final Week task and was paired with Awhina.
“She was nice, but she wasn’t my type. I just played a counsellor role. I didn’t want to be the homewrecker,” he said.
Tara-Lee Preston
Tara-Lee Preston is a building specialist who was matched with Teejay and rumour has it they were vibing from the get-go.

Oisin Scully
Rumour has it Beth was paired up with Sydney-based Irish personal trainer Oisin Scully, who had applied to be a groom on the show.
Although he put his best foot forward, Beth reportedly found him arrogant and wasn’t really there to find a connection. Instead, she hoped it would make Teejay jealous.

Maxi
Adrian was matched up with a woman named Maxi. While her Instagram is on private, the pair are still following each other on social media.

Hannah
Not a lot is known about Paul’s match Hannah. However, a source speaking to Daily Mail Australia reveals that she didn’t seem too impressed by Paul.
“She called him out straight away. She told him, ‘If you were happy, you wouldn’t be here’,” they claimed.
Pretty explosive stuff, huh?
