These residents fear they could be surrounded by more than 500 homes under plans to construct a new housing estate.
The families live in a row of six cottages - the East Benton Farm Cottages - just towards the west of Station Road North, in Wallsend.
The properties currently have farmland towards the south and east.
Now, Persimmon Homes has drawn up proposals to build around 550 houses on these fields and the application has been submitted to North Tyneside Council.
The firm says there is an “overwhelming need and demand” for new housing in the area.
However, objections are being made against the scheme, citing concerns over a potential increase in traffic problems, loss of green space, loss of privacy and a negative impact on wildlife.
Tracy Smith, 51, a chef manager, who has lived in the cottages for more than 15 years, said: “We are going to be in the middle of a big housing estate - we will be totally surrounded.
“One of the attractions of moving here was that this was like living in the countryside, within a city area. At the moment, you can see lovely open fields from our gardens. That will all go if the new houses are built.
“And the traffic is going to be an absolute nightmare. The roads surrounding the farm, including Whitley Road and Station Road, already can’t cope and are extremely congested. This will only get worse with the new houses.”
The group also say they have grave concerns about the effect on wildlife.
“We have deer, fox, rabbits, hedgehogs, bats and birds whose homes will be demolished,” added Tracy.
Her parents Dorothy and Jimmy Holmes also feel the development would have an adverse effect on the area.
Mr Holmes, 70, a retired sheet metal worker, has been living there with his wife for more than 40 years.
He said: “It’s nice and quiet here at the moment and the view from our garden is great. You can see Penshaw Monument - on a clear summer day it’s absolutely beautiful. That will all be blocked if this plan is approved.
“So much green space will be lost.”
Work is already underway on the east side of Station Road, where Persimmon Homes are building the new East Benton Rise development. The first phase of the project includes 225 properties.
Commenting on the new plans, John Eynon, managing director for Persimmon North East, said: “The development has been identified in the emerging local plan for 550 homes (with the area to the south of the farm) within the next 15 years.
“There is an overwhelming need and demand for new housing in this area, which is demonstrated by our East Benton Rise development on the other side of Station Road.
“The highways impact is being assessed jointly with the council and will require improvements both within the site and externally to ensure the impact is fully mitigated. It is unfortunate for the short-term disruption that highway works cause but there will be a long-term benefit for all.
“The access track to the row of cottages will also be improved via the new adoptable highway through the development.
“The proposals submitted show significant buffer planting and extensive landscaping around the development and any specific concerns should be submitted through the planning application process with the council for them to be considered accordingly.”
