Meet Sky Glass: Satellite TV and all your favourite apps without the need for a dish or set top box

Sky Ireland has today announced that Sky’s new TV, Sky Glass, will officially launch in Ireland on Thursday August 25.

Available in a range of sizes and colours, Sky Glass is a UHD (4K) television with all of your favourite satellite channels built in, so you no longer need a satellite dish.

It’s also got its own powerful speakers and a subwoofer built in, so there’s no need to buy a separate soundbar or sound system.

And you can access all of your favourite apps such as Disney+, Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube from the TV using voice control.

Three sizes, five colours

Sky Glass comes in a choice of three sizes (43in, 55in and 65in) and five rich colours.

Choose from Ocean blue, Ceramic white, Racing green, Dusky pink, or Anthracite black, with matching remote and speaker fascia.

The unit has a mounting bracket cleverly integrated into the TV, or a sleek colour matched stand.

With a single plug, Sky Glass makes cable clutter a thing of the past, while the woven acoustic mesh used to optimise sound performance and millimetre-perfect.

The firm has partnered with Map Project Office, one of world’s leading design agencies, to create the elegant design of Sky Glass.

Sound and vision

Sky Glass 4K Ultra HD Quantum Dot screen delivers a crystal-clear picture, while the 10-bit HDR screen supports HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision to produce vibrant, more intense colour.

The firm said that whether you’re cheering on your team in the Premier League or getting stuck into the latest blockbuster, Sky Glass knows what you’re watching and optimises sound and picture for you, while Intelligent Zonal Technology works to bring you darker darks and brighter whites.

There are six powerful, integrated speakers in optimal positions to deliver edge to edge Dolby Atmos sound and a sub-woofer designed in for a rich, deep bass – all without buying a separate soundbar.

Sky Glass can be controlled by your voice or remote.

A new home page makes it easier to find, watch and play the TV you love. It brings together all your favourite content from across Sky, Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, Prime Video, Spotify, YouTube and more.

Milestone event

Sky Ireland CEO, JD Buckley, said: “Following its hugely successful launch in the UK, we are thrilled to announce that Ireland will be the second market to launch Sky Glass.

“The launch of Sky Glass here marks a significant milestone in Sky’s 25-year history in Ireland and follows our recent announcement that Sky Mobile is coming to Ireland in 2023, as well as the opening of our four new flagship retail stores.

“Investing in the best technology, the best content and the best customer experience are always our top priorities and Sky Glass is the most innovative product we have developed yet.

“It opens the world of Sky to customers who may not have been able to access Sky TV before now.”

Sky Glass is the world’s first TV to be certified Carbon Neutral. It has low power features built in such as auto-switch-off and auto-adjusting screen brightness helping it to be more energy efficient. As Sky Glass has everything built in, you reduce electricity consumption by up to 50%.

Sky Glass starts from as little as €15 per month for the 43in Sky Glass TV. For just €5 more, you can increase the size of your TV to a 55in, or you can choose the 65in Sky Glass TV for €26 per month.
