Meet Jump Start Jonny - the tourettes sufferer who has been keeping children fit long before Joe Wicks

Before Joe Wicks turned himself into the nation's PE teacher, one man was already leading the charge against childhood obesity from his living room.

Jump Start Jonny has long been a favourite of almost every primary school child in the land with his high-energy routines and child-friendly banter.

With zany catchphrases like 'Whoopa" - he has been doing online workouts for children for more than six years.

On Monday, as the nation tuned in to keep fit with Joe - The Body Coach - Wicks - millions of children, loyal to lesser-known Jump Start Jonny were also enjoying his first live workout on YouTube.

Jump Start Jonny - or Jonny Stewart as he's known - began exercising as a way to keep his tourettes under control after being diagnosed with the condition at the age of 24.

He had planned originally to become a primary school teacher, but while he was studying at Brighton University, he took up group exercising and decided, instead to be fitness instructor.

He started up his own adult classes and, in an effort to advertise them, he arranged a flash mob in the local town centre and uploaded the video to YouTube.

Jonny's sister was a primary school teacher at the time and decided to use his video as an exercise lesson for her class - and Jump Start Johnny was born.

Since 2014 Jonny's following has gone from strength to strength and his unique brand of energetic exercise is used in school gym sessions across the land.

Jonny even offers a special School Membership on his website.

Since the coronavirus crisis gripped the world, as well as launching his live daily workouts on You Tube, Jonny is offering free premium content for the duration of lockdown.

You can watch Jump Start Jonny every morning at 9am on his YouTube channel.
