Meet England's Euro 2022 final pundits including Lionesses legend Alex Scott

Lionesses legend Alex Scott and Arsenal icon Ian Wright will lead the BBC punditry team for England's historic Euro 2022 final against Germany.

Sarina Wiegman's side thrashed Sweden on Tuesday to reach their first major tournament final in 13 years. The Lionesses will be backed by a sell-out crowd at Wembley for the showpiece event, with the successful tournament seeing fans flock to support the team.

They now face their toughest test so far though, with fierce rivals Germany all that's standing in the way of their first-ever major international trophy. The BBC have covered the competition in full throughout the summer and things will be no different at Wembley.

Gabby Logan has been the broadcaster's main presenter and will keep that role for the final. She is set to be joined in the studio by both Wright and Scott, who are two of the country's best-loved pundits.

Scott is a legend of the women's game, having won the top-flight six times, the FA Cup seven times and the Champions League once. She enjoyed three spells with Arsenal, as well as turning out for Birmingham City and Boston Breakers during a glittering career.

Playing as a right-back, she also starred on the international stage, earning 140 caps for England. She started the Lionesses last final in 2009, also against Germany, with Scott encouraging the current England side to get revenge for that heavy defeat.

"The hurt in 2009 walking past that trophy and then having to watch as the Germans lifted it never left me as a footballer!! Hopefully the emotions will be very different tomorrow. Goodnight & see you at Wembley," she tweeted on Saturday night.

Following the semi-final win over Sweden, Scott also highlighted the benefits of an increase in spending on the women's game. And she admitted that she was left emotional as Wiegman's team ran riot.

"Is this real? Someone pinch me. We’re off to Wembley. Come on. Every single game you’ve had different players step up. It is hard for me not to get emotional right now because the amount of investment which has gone into the women's game is for a moment like this," Scott said.

"For this team to get to Wembley, they are creating something special and deserve every accolade which is coming their way. But (after) the FA investment, everyone who has been involved in women's football has been waiting for this moment. It's special."

Wright will complete the punditry team, having been a vocal backer of women's football. During a 15-year career, Wright won the Premier League, two FA Cups and the League Cup, earning legend status at Arsenal.

His performances at club level earned him 33 caps for England, for whom he scored nine goals. Following the semi-final, Wright called for a renewed push for young girls to be given the opportunity to play.

"Whatever happens in the final now, if girls are not allowed to play football just like the boys can in their PE after this tournament then what are we doing?. We’ve got to make sure that they are able to play and they’ve got the opportunity to do this because it’s going to inspire a lot of people," he said.

"Like there’s no legacy to this? It there’s no legacy after this then what are we doing? Girls should be able to play because this is as proud as I’ve felt of any England side. This is what it’s about."
