A medical plane carrying six passengers — including one child patient — has crashed in Philadelphia quickly after taking off, setting off a blaze that has put multiple houses on fire in the area.
Mayor of Philadelphia, Cherelle Parker, stated in a news conference that vehicles and several houses have been affected by the fire.
“As of right now, we have no reports on the number of fatalities,” Parker said.
“Right now we’re asking for prayers for any and everyone who may have been affected.”
The plane was carrying a child who was being treated for a life-threatening illness in the US city from Mexico, according to Jet Rescue Air Ambulance spokesperson Shai Gold.
All passengers, which included the child’s mother, were from Mexico, with the flight preparing to make one stop-off in Missouri before heading home.
Jet Rescue Air Ambulance did not confirm if there were any survivors.
US President Donald Trump has responded on social media to the crash, saying: “So sad to see the plane go down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,” and states that first responders are “doing a great job”.
“Our people are totally engaged.”
