Mediawan Rights has recently announced its involvement in the production of the highly anticipated thriller series, 'Kabul,' alongside France's 24 25 Films and Cinétévé. The international cast of the show includes renowned actors such as Eric Dane from 'Euphoria,' Shervin Alenabi from 'Tehran,' Jonathan Zaccaï, Thibault Evrard, Vassilis Kukalawi, Jeanne Goursaud, Gianmarco Saurino, and Valentina Cervi.
'Kabul' is set against the backdrop of the U.S. troops' withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Taliban's rise to power. The series, which commenced filming on April 1, delves into the chaotic evacuation of various characters, including diplomats, soldiers, and civilians, seeking refuge amidst the crisis in Kabul.
The show is being directed by Kasia Adamik and Olga Chajdas, with scripts penned by Olivier Demangel, Thomas Finkelkraut, and Joey Lavy. 'Kabul' has been ordered by France Télévisions, ZDF, and RAI, with production led by Fabienne Servan-Schreiber, Charlotte Ortiz, Matthias Weber, and Thibault Gast.
Mediawan Rights will be presenting 'Kabul' to international buyers at MipTV in Cannes and will handle worldwide distribution in collaboration with Entourage. The company's CEO, Valérie Vleeschhouwer, expressed excitement about the acquisition, emphasizing the series' narrative and cinematic ambition.
The inspiration behind 'Kabul' stems from the real-life experiences of Fabienne Servan-Schreiber, who was involved in the rescue efforts of Afghan artists' families during the 2021 Kabul evacuation. The producers aim to capture the urgency and complexity of the situation through the character-driven narrative of the series.
In addition to 'Kabul,' Mediawan Rights is also gearing up to release other high-profile projects, including Bille August's miniseries 'The Count of Monte Cristo.' The company's commitment to offering daring and top-notch productions underscores its dedication to captivating global audiences.
