A tragic incident unfolded in northeast Philadelphia on Friday night when a twin-engine medevac jet carrying a child patient and her mother crashed in a neighborhood, causing a fiery explosion. The Learjet 55, with six people on board, crashed shortly after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The pediatric patient and her mother were returning home to Mexico after the child had received treatment at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. The flight was en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri, with plans to refuel before continuing to Tijuana, Mexico.

All six individuals on board, including four crew members and the two passengers, were Mexican nationals. Unfortunately, there are no confirmed survivors at this time.

The crash resulted in several injuries on the ground, with six patients being sent to Temple University Hospital-Jeanes Campus for treatment. Three patients have been discharged, while the remaining three are in fair condition.

The immediate concern is for the patient's family, the air ambulance personnel, and other victims who may have been affected on the ground. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board leading the efforts.

Local authorities, emergency response teams, and state officials have been actively involved in managing the aftermath of the crash. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has offered all Commonwealth resources to support the emergency response.

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the incident and expressed his condolences for the lives lost. The crash comes amidst ongoing investigations into a recent deadly collision involving an American Airlines regional jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River.

While the aviation disaster is a tragic event, it has showcased the unified response of local, state, and federal agencies in addressing the situation. Efforts are underway to provide support and assistance to those affected by the crash.

The Red Cross Philadelphia has deployed a team of disaster workers to aid residents who have been displaced as a result of the incident.
