Meat Loaf fans can join a celebration of his life at Bat Out Of Hell musical

There's still time this week for Meat Loaf fans to join a musical celebration of the late star's life and career.

Bat Out Of Hell The Musical is currently whipping up the audiences at Stockton Globe - ahead of a summer run at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle - and there are some tickets still available for those wanting to join the action.

Billed as the "perfect tribute to music legends Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman", the show showcases the songs of the American rock singer and his one-time collaborator and the current tour is dedicated to the memory of the two.

Composer and lyricist Steinman died last year and, with the death in January of Meat Loaf, the show - named after their 1977 debut album - takes on an extra poignancy for fans.

Bat Out Of Hell initially took shape as a musical - Neverland, a futuristic rock version of JM Barrie's classic Peter Pan - before turning into one of the best-selling albums of all time and now this musical, which was first staged in 2017, brings the story full circle and is currently being seen as a legacy for the talented pair.

It has its roots in JM Barrie’s tale, featuring a group of teenagers frozen in time, but ups the ante with a big, bold production and those rock anthem hits - including I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That), Dead Ringer For Love and of course the title track Bat Out of Hell - which fuel the love story at its heart between Strat, one of 'the lost', and Raven who ages normally.

Glenn Adamson, who plays Strat, said: “Meat was a true inspiration of mine and I always hoped that when he was well enough to perform again that he would join us for a song or two.

"He was famous for never performing a song the same way twice - I hope we can carry that with us."

Steinman did manage to see a performance and Glenn added: "Nobody wrote rock anthems that are essentially musical theatre numbers like Jim.

"I think this was his finest work and I’m just so glad that he got to make this show before he died.”

Martha Kirby, who plays Raven, said: “The show has always paid tribute to both Meat and Jim’s work.

"It is now our place to continue sharing their legacy and greatness."

Bat Out Of Hell The Musical will be at Stockton Globe until Saturday, with two shows on both Friday and the last day. For remaining tickets see here.

For tickets to the musical's upcoming run at the Theatre Royal, which will take place from July 26 to August 6 having been rescheduled from January, see here.
