Dubliners have taken to social media to pay tribute to Meat Loaf, after the singer passed away today aged 74.
Among those paying tribute is Dublin singer Imelda May who took to her Twitter account to post a heartfelt message about the "Bat Out Of Hell" singer.
She wrote: "Meat Loaf has passed. I’m so lucky I got to know, sing and laugh with such a wildly talented, charismatic, big hearted, supportive, high spirited and wonderful man. I’ll really miss you pal."
And a number of fellow fans also took their time to write their tributes, remembering his many gigs in Dublin down through the years.
One Twitter user wrote: "We listened to a lot of Meat Loaf during the weekends in lockdown. He had some absolute bangers that were great for letting the hair down when it seemed the whole world was going up in flames. Saw him play in Dublin a few years back. He was a legend."
Another said: "Part of my youth died peacefully today as the brilliantly talented, funny, hard working, entertaining and larger than life Meat Loaf passed. I first heard him on Dublin pirate radio in 1978 and a massive fan since, first saw Meat Loaf in Dalymount & 23 times since."
One person recalled his gig at The Point: "One of the best gigs I ever was at was Meat Loaf in the Point Theatre in Dublin about 30 years ago, a hot sweaty night and the encore of Paradise. was only sensational."
And another recalled meeting the great man: "RIP Meat Loaf, this man had such great songs I find it hard to pick one but have gone for the classic that is "Bat Out Of Hell". I was introduced to the great man in Dublin in 1990, he said 'call me Meat' and invited me for a beer but I had to say no."
A statement on his official Facebook page confirmed the news this morning. It read: "Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends."
"His amazing career spanned 6 decades that saw him sell over 100 Million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including “Fight Club”, “Focus”, “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Wayne’s World.”
“Bat Out of Hell” remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time."
"We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man."
"We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time."
"From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!"
