Neighbours put lumps of concrete on drives in Gedling street with 'questionable' parking near school

Neighbours on a narrow Gedling street have welcomed upcoming parking restrictions, claiming they will make a "big difference" to parking frustrations. Nottinghamshire County Council announced it would put single yellow lines along Wood Lane and double yellow lines at the Junction of Wood Lane and Yew Tree Lane.

It came after consistent complaints from residents about parking restricting visibility and movement in the area, largely caused by visitors to Carlton-le-Willows Academy and Gedling Woods. Dianne Moore, a 59-year-old carer who lives in Wood Lane, said she tried to avoid navigating the junction near the woods.

"Although the woods and meadows are for everybody, when people come here they park wherever, some on both sides of this lane," she said. "I moved here four years ago and it's been going on since then. I've had to tell people 'that's my garden you're parked on'.

"That's why people have got lumps of concrete and things at the end of their drives. You can't change people, it will move the problem somewhere else, but it will make a big difference."

The single yellow lines in Wood Lane will mean that vehicles cannot wait or park on the side of Wood Lane with the path between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday which will increase the safety of pupils walking to the academy.

Another nearby resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It's a good idea. People come to take their dogs for a walk, they park on the corner and people can't get round."

Phil Dallman, 40, said: "I'm quite happy with that, some of the parking round here is questionable shall we say. When they park right outside it's narrow so you can't see cars as you're pulling out.

"You've almost got to pull out before you can see anything, there's lots of parents parking all over the place." Councillor Neil Clarke, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: ““Wood Lane is a key route to access Carlton-Le-Willows Academy, both for vehicles and pedestrians, and it is important that everyone should be able to get to and from their place of education safely.

"It is great that people want to visit green spaces like Gedling Woods, however doing so should not put other road users at risk and it is our hope that these parking restrictions will improve safety in the area. Our public consultation showed that there was good local support for the proposals."
