Five more cases have been identified in Victoria: three in people who recently returned from Bali and two linked to a local outbreak.

It brings the total number of diagnosed cases in the state to 13 people so far in 2025.

The disease is highly infectious and one person caught the disease while in the waiting room of a primary healthcare facility, according to the state’s health department.

Recent exposure sites in Melbourne include popular Chapel Street venues Revolver Upstairs Bar, ONESIXONE Bar and Somewhere Bar at various points over the Labor Day long weekend.

They also include seven shops at Highpoint Shopping Centre, the Taylor’s Lakes Hotel and fast food outlets at Mornington on March 7.

Frankston Hospital’s emergency department is on the list from March 11-13, as well as Rosebud Hospital’s emergency department on March 11.

Victoria’s health department advised people who visited the sites to monitor for symptoms, which can develop up to 18 days after exposure.

They include a fever, cough, runny nose and rash but in rare cases it can develop into brain inflammation or pneumonia.

The vaccination rate for the disease has been below the 95 per cent national target since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the department said almost all recent cases occurred in people who have not had two documented doses of the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine.

The vaccine is free for people born from 1966 onwards and is particularly recommended for anyone travelling to Southeast Asia.
