McLaughlin, van Gisbergen team up for Daytona 24 Hours GTD Pro one-off

Former Supercars rivals Shane van Gisbergen and Scott McLaughlin will pair up in a one-off IMSA SportsCar Championship GTD Pro class entry for the Daytona 24 Hours in January.

The Kiwi pair will race a Corvette Z06 GT3.R entered under the Trackhouse by TF banner, the result of a partnership between NASCAR squad Trackhouse Racing and Corvette partner team TF Sport.

Van Gisbergen and McLaughlin, who won three Supercars apiece while driving for the rival Triple Eight and DJR Team Penske operations, will share with Trackhouse protege Connor Zilisch and TF regular Ben Keating in the one-off entry.

Zilisch is the only member of the quartet to have previously won at Daytona, the 18-year-old NASCAR Xfinity racer triumphant in the LMP2 division this year for Era Motorsports.

Keating, who won the first of his two World Endurance Championship GTE Am titles and Le Mans 24 Hours class victories with a TF Sport Aston Martin in 2022, has a best Daytona finish of third with a JDC-Miller MotorSports Cadillac DPi in 2022.

"It’s going to be a lot of fun and we are really grateful to have this opportunity, so a huge thank you to GM and Corvette Racing who helped us put this together," said TF team boss Tom Ferrier.

"Ben is no stranger to us and the other guys need no introduction. A hugely talented bunch and it will be great fun. We will do all we can to win a watch!"

McLaughlin, who uses Chevrolet engines in his Team Penske IndyCar, praised van Gisbergen as "one of the best racers I’ve ever competed against" after securing hat-trick of Supercars titles between 2018-20 before switching codes.

"When the opportunity came up from General Motors to run with Ben, Connor and Shane, I jumped at it straight away," said McLaughlin.

"I’ve always wanted to run an endurance race in a Chevrolet Corvette, and I could not imagine a better group to join.

"I am confident we have a real chance of winning a Rolex with this team.

"Connor is a young star who’s going to be around for a long time, and Ben has won Le Mans and a World Championship in a Corvette. We’re going to have some fun."

Van Gisbergen will embark on his first full season in the NASCAR Cup series next year with Trackhouse after spending 2024 in the second-tier Xfinity Series.

The Supercars champion of 2016, 2021 and 2022 is making his return to Daytona for the first time since 2020.

He added: "This is a dream come true to get to drive alongside Scotty, Connor and Ben. I love the 24 Hours of Daytona and it’s awesome to do this with this team."
