McLaren cars will bear a striking one-off livery for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.
At last year's edition of the race, the Woking-based team raced with a different livery as part of their Driven by Change campaing. And, in partnership with Vuse – a brand owned by the team's sponsor BAT – the initiative returns again for this year.
McLaren unveiled the chosen livery for this weekend's race this week. It features designs from emerging Lebanese artist Anna Tangles, with her unique linear style mixed with the recognisable colours seen on the team's cars all year, the 'papaya' orange and blue.
Instead of the usual block colours, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo will be in a car which features an intricate pattern – though it will still be very much recognisable as a McLaren car.
Tangles said of her design: "As a lifelong F1 fan, I never believed that I would one day have my artwork showcased at a grand prix, and it's all thanks to Driven by Change.
"I dedicate my spare time to training and encouraging other artists, particularly other Middle Eastern female creatives, to embrace their passion and skills, and so it's a privilege to be a part of a community that supports the same ambition of empowering underrepresented artists in this way."
McLaren's executive director of marketing Louise McEwen said: "We are delighted to represent an emerging artist's design on our race cars once again, championing creativity together with Vuse. Anna Tangles produces stunning artwork and has a powerful story which perfectly embodies the spirit and values of the Driven by Change campaign."
And BAT's head of brand building John Beasley added: "Driven by Change was designed to build legacy, and we could not be prouder that our 2021 artist, Rabab identified Anna to carry on that legacy of creativity and change.
"Anna embodies the Driven by Change ethos, and it's great to see an original piece of her artwork have its time to shine on one of the world's fastest-moving canvases. We're extremely excited to see what the future holds for Anna and to uncover future artists for her to pass the paintbrush to."
