Singing and joking may not be a part of Georginio Rutter’s daily repertoire in Leeds United’s dressing room, but he’s a valued character the squad is trying to find his best form. Weston McKennie, another January arrival, is at the opposite end of the outgoing spectrum.
Max Wober, the trailblazer for January 2023 transfers to Elland Road, is already one of the most important members of the Whites’ backline. Before last weekend’s painful shoulder problem, he spoke to the media about his fellow winter arrivals.
One look at McKennie’s introductory video interview with friend Tyler Adams showed his gregarious, outgoing nature. The American hasn’t looked back, as far as Wober’s concerned.

“Weston, he's a character, he's a really funny guy,” he said. “Directly from the first day, everybody enjoyed being on the pitch with him, training with him and he settled in pretty easily. He's definitely already a big part of our group.”
Rutter, four years McKennie’s junior and picking up more of the English language with each passing day, has had a quieter impact on and off the field. Wober says the team has been very impressed with his quality and character, but see a role for them in bringing the Frenchman out of his shell.
“He's probably not the same as Wes with coming to the dressing room every day, joking around, singing in front of everybody,” he said. “Georginio is more calm.
“He’s also probably had more difficulties with the language, but he's also a fantastic guy and everybody in the group tries to help him to become at his best as soon as possible. You can see every day in training he is a fantastic talent.”
