McFly star Danny Jones has found himself in hot water after he was spotted kissing Love Island’s Maura Higgins at a BRITs afterparty. The pictures quickly went viral, sparking speculation and controversy, and leading to an awkward moment on Good Morning Britain.
Danny, who has been married to former Miss England Georgia Horsley since 2014, later apologized, saying sorry to his wife and family for “putting them in this situation.” However, reports now suggest that the couple is no longer together, with Georgia allegedly moving out of their marital home, reported Metro.co.uk.
On Monday’s Good Morning Britain, Melvin Odoom—who was filling in for Richard Arnold on the showbiz segment—was put in the uncomfortable position of discussing the scandal, given that both Danny and Maura were his campmates on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Host Susanna Reid brought up the drama, admitting she found it “very awkward” to report on stories like this. Melvin laughed nervously before saying, “First of all, you guys don’t hold back! Just straight in with the hard stories.” Susanna acknowledged his discomfort but pushed on, saying, “It’s obviously a private matter for them. You were in the jungle with Danny and Maura.”
Melvin handled the moment diplomatically, revealing, “We’ve all got a WhatsApp group, we all got on in the jungle. The other day, it was Danny’s birthday, and we all wished him a happy birthday. But in regards to this story, it’s not my business, and that’s it. That’s all I’m saying.”
Richard Madeley praised Melvin’s response, calling it “extremely civilized,” while Melvin added, “I got on with everyone, and they were all lovely guys. I wish them all the best.”
Meanwhile, sources have claimed that Danny and Maura shared a “brief drunken kiss” after the Brit Awards and were “having a great time” together. While Maura remains single after her recent split from TOWIE and Strictly star Pete Wicks, Danny’s marriage now appears to be in turmoil.
Georgia, who shares a son, Cooper, with Danny, was spotted out with her best friend Rose Mahon over the weekend, looking deep in conversation. Reports suggest she moved out of the couple’s home, telling Danny, “I need to get away,” and has been staying with Rose since Wednesday.
While the couple is reportedly “talking about how they can move forward,” sources say Georgia is still working out what she wants to do. Danny addressed the situation last week in a statement shared on Instagram, apologizing for the delay in speaking out.
“Hello everyone, sorry I’ve taken some time out to be with those closest to me,” he wrote. “I want to deeply apologize to my wife and family for putting them in this situation. I love them so much, and we’ll continue to deal with this privately.”
He also thanked fans for their support, adding, “I love you guys, thank you for your patience, understanding, and support.” As for Maura, she has yet to publicly comment, but sources say she’s struggling with the backlash.
“Maura doesn’t understand why she is bearing the brunt of the criticism,” an insider told Metro. “The social media comments have been relentless, and she’s been feeling incredibly low for the past week. She wants to move on but worries this might not die down anytime soon.” The source added that Maura has been thinking about Georgia throughout all of this, as the fallout from the scandal continues.
