McDonald's to shut restaurant for more than a month

One McDonald's restaurant is closing for more than a month.

The Liscard branch of the fast food giant, in Wallasey, Wirral, has announced it will be closing its doors for five weeks. The refurbishment will see a new restaurant layout with the latest technology being installed, but many have been left with issues trying to get their Maccies fix.

Gareth Pearson, McDonald’s UK&I COO said: "The pace of change within the restaurant industry is relentless, and the pandemic accelerated this with digital adoption gathering greater pace. Our customers rightly expect to have choice in how and where they order and collect their food, and our job is to ensure that every experience is a great one.

"For this to be the case, we know we also have to provide our restaurant teams and delivery partners with the best possible environment to work in. We strongly believe we have to continue to invest to grow, and this investment not only addresses how customers are ordering now but provides us with a platform to continue to adapt in the future, whatever that innovation looks like.”

While the refurbishment is ongoing people are able to order delivery from McDonald's branches in Birkenhead Town Centre and Prenton. McDonalds said it has prepared for extra demand from these locations due to the closure in Wallasey.

There's also the new restaurant which opens in Bidston on July 12, where McDelivery will be available.

Many people were quick to comment on the announcement saying kids in the area would be unhappy about the McDonald's closing for a month, while others said they were already having issues ordering from other branches.

One woman said: "Had to order from Upton on JustEat and they sent a push bike all the way to Wallasey Village, felt well bad for him. 22 minutes riding to deliver it, poor sod."

Another woman said: "After every attempt to order via various apps. Had to text someone that works there to find out what was going on."

There were many tongue-in-cheek comments from residents who referred to the restaurant's ice cream machines that can sometimes be out-of-order.

They said: "Bet the McFlurry machine doesn't work on the reopen."

McDonalds in Liscard will reopen on August 8, 2023.
