McDonald's to make major changes to famous Big Mac and other burgers in 2024

McDonald's is making some big changes to its iconic Big Mac recipe in 2024 across the US.

According to McDonald's, the new recipe will include softer "pillowy" buns that are toasted, "meltier" cheese, white onions - added to the patties on the grill to create a "juicier, caramelized flavour" - as well as extra Big Mac sauce added to the burger. McDonald's announced the changes to its recipes yesterday, and they be rolled out across America by 2024.

Other burgers that are set to see changes are the classic Cheeseburger, Hamburger, and the McDouble burger.

McDonald's chefs said the aim was to make the burgers "more flavourful than ever" and they were met with "rave reviews in Belgium, Australia and Canada."

In a statement on April 17, McDonald's said: "Our chefs have been cooking up small but tasty improvements to the Big Mac sandwich, McDouble burger and our classic Cheeseburger, Double Cheeseburger and Hamburger – and we can’t wait for fans across the U.S. to get a taste."

"After being introduced in international markets like Australia, Canada and Belgium to rave reviews, the burger changes are making their US debut this year. We’ve already started rolling them out in several cities on the West Coast, and customers will be able to taste the difference at all restaurants nationwide by 2024," they added.

However, it is expected that the changes have been trialled in Europe, the recipe of the Big Mac is set to stay the same for now.

However, despite being trialled in Europe, the McDonald's Big Mac in Ireland looks set to stay the same for now. A spokesperson for McDonald's said they "don’t currently have any plans to introduce this to Ireland."

In recent years, Dubliners have called for old lost McDonald's favourite foods to be put back on the menu, like the iconic twisty fries, ham and cheese toasties, and ice-cream sundaes to be brought back, but they unfortunately are still off the menu.
