McDonald's to make huge change to takeaway bags because of World Cup

McDonald's packaging is almost as iconic as the delicious treats inside, and the sight of those brown paper bags bearing the Golden Arches is enough to start your mouth watering.

But the fast food giant is making a big change to their takeaway bags because of the World Cup - but it's only for one day.

To mark the final games of the Group Stage, which will see England take on Wales at 7pm, McDonald's will be handing out meals in four limited edition bags designed by celebs.

Artist AJ Tracey , Manchester City and England midfield ace Phil Foden, Welsh international rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit and award-winning football presenter Laura Woods each shared their favourite football memory - which has been turned into a design on one of the bags.

The launch coincides with an exciting new addition to the McDonald's menu - the McDelivery Chicken Combo. Available only to people who order through a delivery app, it contains 10 Chicken Selects, 20 Chicken McNuggets and eight dips with a price tag of £15.99.

Tonight's match will see England go head-to-head with Wales for a place in the last 16 of the World Cup.

Unless England lose 4-0, they will move forward to the next stage in the competition but it's a harder feat for Wales. In order to get earn a place in the final 16, they need to beat England and they need Iran and the USA to draw. But if Iran or the US win, they need to beat Gareth Southgate's 11 by four goals.

England and Wales fans in both the UK and Qatar are already gearing up for the match, but while Brits head to their locals to watch the build-up fans in the host nation have been paying more than £12 a pint.

Mirror columnist Robbie Savage says that while England fans are expecting a win, the last week proves we shouldn't take anything for granted.

He explains: "On paper, there should be no chance. But at this World Cup, we've already seen Saudi Arabia stun Argentina, Japan beat Germany and Morocco turn over Belgium, so we can't take anything for granted.

"Let's get real: Wales need a miracle to go through. But although it's a long shot, it's not totally out of the question that they could could beat England narrowly with Iran and the USA drawing to leave the door slightly ajar.

"Any sort of win, or at least a much-improved performance, would be a major confidence boost for Rob Page and his players after the crushing disappointment of ghat defeat by Iran."
