McDonald's runs out of Chicken Big Macs after one week and takes them off menu

McDonald's says it has had to take the new Chicken Big Mac off its menu across the country due to popular demand.

The burger - a Big Mac made with chicken fillets instead of beef patties, was launched at the start of the week and should have stayed on the menu for weeks to come.

But due to popular demand it has now sold out.

The limited-edition burger launched on February 2 and was to remain on sale until March 15.

McDonald's described the burger as “the classic Big Mac we all know and love” complete with triple-layered bun, two 100% chicken breast patties in a crispy coating, a slice of cheese, lettuce, pickles and the Big Mac sauce.

A McDonald's spokesman said: "It seemed like everyone was running to get their hands on it."

They added: "We have been delighted by our customers’ reaction to the limited-edition Chicken Big Mac. The demand has been incredible and we simply cannot keep up.

"As such we’ve made the decision to pause the promotion, let our restaurant teams and suppliers restock and get ready for its return in a few weeks.

"We’ll keep customers informed about its return through the usual channels. Thank you to everyone who has made this our most popular launch ever. We can’t wait to bring it back for even more customers to enjoy."

Supply chain issues saw restaurants including menus taking chicken and other items off their menus last year.

McDonald’s ran of milkshakes in most of its UK restaurants due to supply chain problems in August.

The burger chain was also left without bottled drinks across its 1,250 outlets in England, Scotland and Wales as the lorry driver shortage took its toll.

At the same time, Nando’s was forced to shut around 50 restaurants amid a chicken shortage. It blamed staffing shortages at suppliers and a reduced number of lorry drivers.

Rival KFC also warned that supply chain issues meant it was unable to stock some menu items.
