McDonald's Monopoly players have been warned that they could lose their prizes - if they fall victim to a social media mistake.
Participants have been told that their prizes could be taken away from them, simply if they post a picture on social media with the Monopoly code clearly visible.
In fact, in 2019 a customer had their hard-earned prize stolen after posting their unique code on Snapchat - so make sure this doesn't happen to you!
A McDonald’s spokesperson urged players to think twice before posting a picture. They said: “It’s great to see people taking part in Monopoly at McDonald’s and celebrating their wins on social media.
"We would advise that customers claim their prize before they share their game piece code online.”
When did the Monopoly start?
The fast food chain usually gives very little notice as to when the popular game is due to start. In this years' case, it was announced on August 11 that it would commence.
This year, McDonald's Monopoly started on Wednesday, September 7. All McDonald’s restaurants across the UK launched the promotion on this date, so customers can claim their wins via the McDonald's app or online.
In the UK, it runs for six weeks, meaning the current game will end on Tuesday, October 18. Luckily though, after that, you’ll have a few more months to claim any prizes.
How does it work?
After launching back in 2005, the game became increasingly popular.
It works in a similar way to the classic Monopoly board game. But in the McDonald's version, players have a chance to win prizes by collecting game pieces in form of stickers from menu items such as fries, wraps, drinks and McFlurry’s.
All you have to do to take part is simply peel off the game pieces from selected items in order to instantly win free food items and bigger prizes.
The big prizes this year include £100K Cash for four lucky winners, 20 MINI Electric Cars, a £2K Holiday with TUI for 85 potential winners and 1,000 chances to win a McDonald's Gold Card.
