McDonald's lorry bursts into flames on busy Scots road as fire crews race to scene

A McDonald's lorry burst into flames on a busy road in Dundee this morning.

Fire crews raced to Dayton Drive, near the A90 Kingsway, after the alarm was raised at around 6.20am on Friday. A picture taken from the scene showed the rear end of the vehicle engulfed in flames.

Plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing up into the sky as shocked motorists drove past. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SRFS) quickly sent two appliances to the scene.

It's understood the lorry caught fire upon arrival at the nearby McDonald's store but was quickly removed from the car park. The McDonald's at Kingsway Leisure Park remains open.

The fire has now been extinguished and there are no reported injuries. Emergency services remain in attendance as they work on making the area safe.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: "We were alerted at 6.21am on Friday, June 16, to reports of a vehicle fire in Dundee. Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the city's Dayton Drive, where firefighters extinguished a fire which had taken hold of an HGV.

"Crews currently remain on scene working to make the area safe. There are no casualties."

Police confirmed they were alerted to the blaze but their attendance was not required. McDonald's has also been asked for comment.
