The idea of a McDonald’s loyalty card used to be something that only die hard Big Mac fans would dream about, but not any more.
McDonald’s has announced it is piloting a brand new MyMcDonald’s Rewards scheme at 58 restaurants across the country - with two areas in Greater Manchester involved in the fun.
With the Rewards scheme, customers can collect points on their purchases and redeem them against menu items or make a charity donation.

Following a successful launch at ten restaurants at the start of January, 58 North West restaurants were added to the scheme yesterday (January 24).
McDonald's said it intends to roll the rewards scheme out at all restaurants later in the year.
But, until then, Greater Manchester customers will have to head to a McDonald’s in Wigan or Bolton in order to turn points into food..
Six stores in Wigan will be participating in the rewards scheme including Morris Street, Gower Street and the city centre branch.
The Leigh branch, Asda Leigh and the Leigh Parsonage Retail Park store are also taking part.
In Bolton, you can collect points at the Manchester Road (Euro Garages), Astley Bridge, Middlebrook and city centre branches.
Venturing further afield, select McDonald’s in Liverpool, Cheshire, Warrington and Southport are also taking part.
Customers will earn 100 points for every £1 they spend, with every penny spent equating to one point.
People will be able to redeem 1,500 points for a small Fries or regular McCafé coffee, or donate £1.50 to BBC Children in Need.
With 2,500 points, customers can redeem themselves a Double Cheeseburger, Vegetable Deluxe, Cheesy Bacon Flatbread, Medium Fries, or £2.50 to charity.
Those lucky enough to save 4,000 points can choose between six Chicken Nuggets, a Big Mac, Premium Salad, or a £4 charity donation.
Customers can start earning points at participating restaurants by downloading the McDonald’s App via Google Play or the Apple App Store and opting-in to MyMcDonald’s Rewards.

“As well as rewarding our customers with our iconic menu items, we’re delighted to give customers the option of donating points to the brilliant BBC Children in Need, money which we know will make an incredible difference to the lives of many thousands of young people.
“We can’t wait to hear what our customers in the North West make of the scheme and hope to be able to roll it out further later this year.”
Customers who order and pay through the McDonald’s App will automatically earn points on their order – including McDelivery when ordered via the app.
Customers will also also be able to get a one-time code via the app in order to earn points on their purchase.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of the news that several fan favourites would be leaving McDonald's iconic breakfast menu.
