McDonald's forced to ration tomatoes due to shortage leaving Big Tasty fans gutted

McDonald’s has been forced to ration the portions of tomatoes it serves on its burgers due to an ongoing shortage.

Customers are currently being served one tomato instead of two inside the popular Big Tasty and Big Tasty with Bacon burgers.

The fast food giant confirmed the shortage in response to a customer query over social media.

“We are currently experiencing a shortage in our supply of tomatoes”, McDonald’s wrote in the response on Twitter.

“As a result, the Big Tasty and Big Tasty with Bacon are being served with one slice of tomato rather than two.

“We apologise for any inconvenience.”

It is unclear if the shortage is affecting all branches.

There have been reports of signs being displayed both inside and outside of branches to notify customers of the ongoing shortage.

And many customers have been taking to social media to air their grievances.

One person wrote: “What’s happening with the missing tomatoes? Do we need Sherlock Holmes to solve the mystery? Is this another Brexit benefit?”

Another added: “Why do you no longer have the option to add tomatoes to burger?”

McDonald’s fans rejoiced last month when it was announced that the Big Tasty would be returning to menus across the UK once again.

The buyer is made with 100 per cent British and Irish beef, melted Emmental cheese, with a topping of tomato, lettuce and onions, with a coating of Big Tasty sauce inside a sesame seeded bun.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "We are working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible"
