McDonald's cutlery change branded 'criminal' and a 'waste of time' by baffled diners

The popular fast food chain McDonald's have announced that they are set to make a change to their cutlery.

And it's not all good news for some regulars who like to eat their McFlurry's.

The eatery's move has been branded as "criminal" with many calling it a "waste of time" after they confirmed they would be changing it from plastic to paper.

The chain are said to now be axing plastic cutlery across its UK restaurants which will be made from renewable, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified pressed-paper, reports Birmingham Live.

Nina Prichard, head of sustainable and ethical sourcing at McDonald's, said: "As a business, we're committed to taking action on packaging and waste and increasing our use of sustainable materials.

"We're pleased to announce another step forward in eliminating single-use plastics and it's great to be switching our famous McFlurry spoons to this new paper-based material."

However despite many welcoming helping the planet with experts warning us about global warming, the move has not gone down well among its regulars.

In response to the news one said: "Eating with your hands would be more successful than paper cutlery. Their paper straws are beyond a joke and fall apart whilst using them. Just use a lid with a hole to sip your drinks instead. As for paper cutlery, I'd be more inclined to keep a proper set in the car if I knew the alternative was paper."

Another voiced similar concerns adding: "Paper straws don’t work why should forks and knives - there’s a reason they use plastic."

"Maccies using paper spoons as well as straws now is criminal" wrote a third.

Meanwhile a fourth commented: "Paper straws are bad enough how do you eat with paper cutlery."
