If you're thinking about getting in a takeaway on Monday so that you don't have to think about cooking during the Bank Holiday, be aware that a lunchtime McDonald's is off the menu. The fast food chain is closing all of its UK restaurants as a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Restaurants sporting the golden arches will be closed on Monday until 5pm across Nottingham and the county, just like those outlets across the rest of the country. After this time operating hours and services may vary so it is worth checking your local branch before setting off in search of your favourite treat.
Taking to social media to share the news of the closure, the restaurant chain wrote: "All of our UK restaurants will be closed on Monday until 5pm, to allow everyone at McDonald’s to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Operating hours and services may vary after 5pm, so please check our app before travelling."
Some customers agreed with the move but were concerned that staff wouldn't be paid for missed shifts. One person asked: "Are your employees still getting paid for their lost hours?". Another concerned customer joined in: "Quick question: Will your staff be compensated for missing their shifts?" McDonald's UK were quick to respond. The firm replied, saying that: "All company owned restaurant employees will be paid for their scheduled hours."
Major stores including Primark and John Lewis have confirmed they will both close on the day so staff can pay their respects. Greene King pubs will remain open, however. While supermarkets including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose and Morrisons have also announced their plans to close for a limited time during the funeral.
