McDonald's Chicken Big Mac: We tried the new burger and it looks better in the adverts

The moment you've been waiting for is finally here - the McDonald's Chicken Big Mac has landed.

Since midnight, fans of the fast food chain have been going crazy over the launch - so much so #ChickenBigMac is trending on Twitter.

The McDonald's Chicken Big Mac officially launched today (February 2) and already it seems to be flying out their doors.

But this of course was expected.

So we decided we should probably try it out for ourselves and give you our verdict.

Cost

Firstly, the Big Mac costs £4.09 - or £5.59 as part of a meal - however, prices do vary depending on the branch.

What is in the Chicken Big Mac?

The reason it's so popular is clear - it has two patties and three buns - it's the iconic burger everyone knows and loves but with a twist.

It's filled with two 100% chicken breast patties in a crispy coating, a slice of cheese, lettuce, pickles and the world-famous Big Mac sauce.

Presentation

Upon first opening the box, the chicken burger looked a lot smaller than they do in the adverts - although that's to be expected with most food, let's be honest. I don't think I've ever seen food being presented as nicely as it is in the adverts - unless you're in a fancy restaurant.

It was rather lopsided no matter how you tried to fix it and after taking a bite, it did begin to fall apart slightly - nothing dramatic thankfully.

Before arriving on my doorstep, I did think it would be a huge burger and that I would need help eating it. But in reality it can easily be managed by one person and the added bun and patty isn't anything too overwhelming.

The Verdict

I was worried that the burger was going to be dry due to the extra bun but it wasn't at all.

The patties themselves were great - not dry, not too small and pretty tasty. One thing I hate about burgers is when they have no 'bite' to them and it feels thin. Thankfully these were thick and went along nicely with the Big Mac sauce.

The Chicken Big Mac was actually very tasty. (Glasgow Live/Sophie Buchan.)

I did forget that the burger actually has cheese and pickles in it though.

The cheese slice was placed at the bottom so having another one on the middle bun would have been better.

The world-famous Big Mac sauce is what really makes the burger though, let's be honest.

Beef or chicken?

Which is better? Their OG Big Mac or their new burger?

For me, it's the chicken - is it too cheesy if I say 'winner, winner, chicken dinner'?

I'll be honest, I don't go to McDonald's at all. But I can also honestly say that if I was passing a McDonald's and was in the mood for a chicken burger - I would pop in.

Other than the minor issues of it falling apart and going slightly lopsided - and the fact I forgot the cheese and pickles were there - it's an all round decent burger that I would happily eat again.

Out of 10? I'd give it a nine. I can't really fault them for it falling apart, as burgers are notorious for that.

If it had more pickles and an extra slice of cheese it could have been a 10 out of 10.

What do the public think about the Chicken Big Mac?

It seems that the general consensus on social media is the same - most people seem to love the new addition to the menu - but the cheese (or lack of) is the talking point.

Taking to Twitter one twitter user said: "7/10 for me. Gherkins didn’t work, as much as I love em and I’d like another slab of cheese. I’m going in again before they go tho".

Another added: "I'm not an habitual Mc D eater, however . . . Might have to give this ago."

A third called it a "game-changer" whilst a fourth said, "I would just like to point out how long I have been waiting for this technological innovation."

One Twitter user did try to take it to the next level however and combine the new and OG burger by asking for one chicken patty and one beef.

Food for thought.
