McDonald’s Chicken Big Mac: I’d never had a Big Mac before - but I’m Lovin’ it

I’m a super fussy eater. I moved on from Chicken McNugget Happy Meals around aged 11 and am now a regular orderer of a ‘plain Mayo Chicken’. That’s right, bun, patty - no mayo or lettuce.

But when McDonald’s announced the launch of their Chicken Big Mac, I couldn’t deny that I was tempted.

The burger launched on the menu today (February 2), along with the return of the mozzarella dippers, Galaxy McFlurry and Chicken Legend.

And having never tried a Big Mac in my 24 years of living, I figured there was no better time to try one.

There was quite the queue at my local Drive Thru come 11.10am, and I sat waiting in the queue for around 10 minutes while other drivers placed their orders at the speaker.

“Welcome to McDonald’s, can I take your order please?”

“Could I get a medium Chicken Big Mac meal, with a coke, please?”

Costing £5.59 for a meal - though venues do vary - my meal arrived fairly quickly at the third window.

I pulled into a parking space, and honestly, I’d worried that McDonald’s might have pre-made a few dozen Chicken Big Macs at 11am in preparation for the inevitable scramble to try them - but it looked freshly made, well assembled, and was still hot, so I had nothing to worry about.

McDonald's described the meal as "the most iconic and beloved burger but with an exciting new twist".

It features 100% chicken breast patties that are similar to the ones found on a Mayo Chicken, sandwiched between their recognisable triple layered bun.

Also on the burger is a slice of cheese, lettuce, pickles, onions and the world-famous Big Mac sauce.

With only having small hands, it was difficult to hold the burger without the insides sliding everywhere due to the sauce and the cheese, which was quickly melting.

But, when I bit down into the triple decker Chicken Big Mac, I realised why every single person in the Drive Thru before me had ordered one.

Had I really been missing out on Big Mac sauce all these years?

The chicken was hot and crispy, and the flavours were really delicious, with the gherkins adding a vinegary acidity to cut through the stodge.

There was a little too much lettuce for my liking, as it was mostly falling off the bun - but I appreciate that the burger does need it.

I was adamant that I wasn’t going to enjoy the Chicken Big Mac, but I was really pleasantly surprised. I’d absolutely order it again, but I’d ask them to go easy on the lettuce, and maybe no onions.
